The project promotes knowledge exchange on wetland restoration among partners from Poland, Finland, and Ukraine. With secured funding, it will advocate for peatland restoration using OTOP’s Hands-on Manual on Re-wetting, organize study visits to Polish restoration sites, and support advocacy efforts in Poland and Ukraine. Special attention is given to border wetlands in Ukraine due to the ongoing conflict. The initiative will strengthen expert networks and promote Nordic-inspired nature-based solutions for peatland conservation, water retention, and water quality improvement across all three countries.
We are glad to invite you to take part in the international online conference of the project "Nature-based solutions in open wetlands restoration for biodiversity, water quality improvement and climate mitigation" on 12th June 2025. This project is supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM) and conducted by partnership of Finnish NGO Snowchange Cooperative, Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (UNCG) and Polish Society for the Protection of Birds (OTOP).
This conference gathers experts to discuss peatland and wetland restoration across Europe. Topics include Finland’s peatland restoration, subsidies’ impact on land use, spatial planning challenges, and spontaneous wetland recovery. It also covers economic incentives for farmers, wetlands' roles in biodiversity, climate resilience, and national defence, with a special focus on Ukraine’s wetlands in reconstruction.
